1.Plant a gift This one takes some planning but is well worthwhile. Sow seeds of your friend/family relations favourite plant into a pot. When grown, wrap in cellophane and tie with a bow matching the colour of the flower. 2. Key Rack Know someone who is always losing their keys? A hand made key rack is a fun gift that doesn't require any carpentry skills. Most DIY stores sell the wooden back plates and screw in hooks for next to nothing. Paint and decorate. If you want to splash out a little more you can always get or make a brightly coloured key ring. 3.Baked Gifts If you are known for your baking, why not bake their favourite cake, wrap in a ribbon and either write out the recipe on fancy card (or inside the birthday card) or if you are feeling really generous, you can make vouchers for them to swap for more of your yummy cakes |
4.Gift baskets It is cheaper to make a gift basket than get it ready made. Theme your basket to suit the recipient. a tea/coffee basket, a cooks gift basket, a gardeners gift basket, etc etc. 5.Give Flowers ![]() Buy a cheap white vase, decorate it if your painting skills are up to it and fill with flowers from your garden or your parents garden. Wrap in plastic wrap and adorn with a bow. 6.Bargain Hunt Keep an eye out for bargains and buy gifts year round when you spot them. Don't leave it until the last minute, it'll end up costing you more. Shop in thrift stores, dont' be afraid to buy second hand or discount. |
7. Make
a Scrap Book If you have known your friend / partner for years and have lots of photos and mementoes you can paste into a scrap book, then this is a perfect gift to show how much they mean to you. They will love memories a personalised scrapbook will evoke. 8. The Gift of your Time Do you have a friend who has no family nearby or who is a single mum, desperate for some timeout? Make some baby sitting vouchers. This will be appreciated far more than a material gift that requires little thought or effort. 9. Be honest. Be honest, chances are your loved ones will be relieved if you want to spend less on christmas and birthday presents as it means they get to cut down too. Agree a tight limit for gifts with friends and family. It makes it more intersting if you have to get creative to find gifts that cost next to nothing. |
