Match your natural hair color to your desired hair color.
The worst thing you can do especially if you are new to hair colouring, is to go for a radically different look.  follow this list to find the colour right for you.
1a.Naturally blonde with grey or blue eyes and warm skin tone:  Go for strawberry blonde or golden blonde

1b. Naturally blonde with grey or blue eyes and cool skin tone: Go for  ash blonde, mid blonde or warm beige tones.

2a. Naturally dark blonde or light brown hair with blue, grey, green or hazel eyes and warm skin tone.:  Go for honey, or light auburn tones.

2b. Naturally dark blonde or light brown hair wiht blue, grey, green or hazel eyes and cool skin tone:  Go for soft brown tones.

3a. Naturally red or auburn hair with blue, grey or green eyes and a warm skin tone:  Go for dark bronze or copper colours.
3b. Naturally red or auburn hair with blue, grey or green eyes and a cool skin tone: Go for golden blonde.

4a. naturally medium brownhair with light brown or green eyes and warm skin:  Go for rich copper or chestnut hair colouring.
4b. Naturally medium brown hair with light brown or green eyes and cool skin:  Go for rich chocolate or plum

5a.  Naturally black or deepest brown hair with brown eyes and warm skin:  Go for mahogany or rich dark brown tones.

5b.
naturally black or deepest brown hair with brown eyes and cool skin: Go for jet black or burgundy hair.

6..If your complexion is fairly ruddy (has a lot of red in it) go for the cool shade or hair colour. Reds will increase the red in your skin but blonde or beige and honey browns can tone down the red.

7.As you get older, the more striking your hair colour, the more it will age you. Stick to midlle of the range colours avoid very blonde or very dark.

8.Try colouring a sample strand if you are using a home dye kit.  If you have never coloured your hair before, salons are the safest option. Semi permanent colors are also a goot bet.

9.
Try to go for natural looking highlights or low lights, monoblock colour can look false and harsh and modern 'stripes' just look cheap.  Uncoloured hair (unless its black) is often made up of lots of small variations on the same shade

10. If you decide to color at home, rub vaseline around your hairline to stop fine hairs being tinted by the hair dye. This is especially important if you are dying your hair darker.
